CHARSADDA: Only one ambulance is available at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Charsadda to deal with emergency situations, which is insufficient for more than 40,000 emergency cases reported at the hospital every month. The shortage of ambulances has created serious difficulties for patients and their attendants .
A large number of patients visit DHQ Hospital Charsadda daily to seek emergency services. Official statistics showed that the number of emergency cases at the hospital exceeded 40,000 per month.
A significant number of these patients required referral to major hospitals in Peshawar for better treatment. However, due to the availability of only one ambulance at the hospital, most patients are forced to rely on private ambulance services. Private ambulance operators often take advantage of emergency situations and charge patients several times higher fares, placing an additional financial burden on poor families. On the other hand, Rescue officials said that despite limited resources, Rescue 1122 was providing ambulance services at various centres across the district.
According to the officials, one ambulance each has been provided at Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Tangi, Rural Health Centre Jamalabad, Rural Health Centre Umarzai, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Shabqadar, and District Headquarters Hospital Charsadda.Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital Charsadda, Dr Abdul Qudoos, said that providing ambulances during emergencies was the responsibility of Rescue 1122.
