Four people, including two brothers, were killed and another injured in separate traffic accidents involving a tanker and trailers in different parts of the city.
A man was killed and another seriously injured in a traffic accident on the Baloch Colony Bridge in the Tipu Sultan area. The victims were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in an Edhi ambulance.
Witnesses said that while climbing the bridge, an unidentified vehicle hit a Suzuki pickup, causing two passengers to fall onto the road. A tanker coming from behind ran over the two men. Their identities could not be immediately ascertained.
In another incident within the limits of the Azizabad police station, a trailer hit a motorbike carrying two brothers near the Furniture Market on the road from Ayesha Manzil to Karimabad.
Both suffered critical injuries and were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) by a Chhipa ambulance, with one of them dying on the way and the other succumbing to his injuries during treatment.
The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Atif, son of Mahmood, and 20-year-old Tabish, son of Mahmood, residents of Block 16, Federal B Area, near the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases.
Police said the brothers were learning air-conditioner repair work and were on their way to collect Eid clothes from a tailor when the accident occurred. A spokesperson for the District Central police said the accident occurred on Shahrah-e-Pakistan, opposite the Jamaat Khana. Initial information suggests the motorbike collided with a trailer, causing the riders to fall onto the road and being hit by another trailer.
Police arrested the driver of the trailer, bearing registration No. TMG-361, while the driver of another trailer managed to escape. Both trailers have been impounded, and efforts are under way to arrest the absconding driver.
Investigations are under way and evidence is being collected with the help of CCTV cameras. In another incident near Ganna Mandi within the limits of the SITE Super Highway Industrial Area police station, a female pedestrian was critically injured after being hit by an unidentified vehicle.
She was taken to ASH, where she died during treatment. The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Naseem, wife of Azam Khan. Police said further investigation into the incident is under way.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh president Haleem Adil Sheikh has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of two brothers, who were killed in a traffic accident near the Karimabad bridge, and said that the incident was the result of an uncontrolled heavy traffic system and the criminal negligence of the Sindh government.
He said on Wednesday that the sudden death of the young men, who had left their home for Eid shopping, was a matter of grave concern for society. He termed it a heartbreaking tragedy that a family had plunged into mourning just days before the Eid. He said the unchecked movement of heavy traffic in Karachi had put the lives of citizens at serious risk.
Citing statistics, he said that during the month of Ramazan alone, 15 citizens had lost their lives in accidents involving dumpers and trailers, while more than 42 people had been crushed to death by heavy vehicles in the past three months.
He added that 94 people had been killed and more than 1,025 injured in traffic accidents so far in 2026, which reflected the alarming state of Karachi’s traffic management system. The PTI leader said the Sindh government and relevant authorities had completely failed to improve the city’s traffic system. He alleged that the transport mafia had been given a free hand, resulting in daily loss of precious lives. “The lack of effective action against trailers and dumpers is equivalent to playing with the lives of citizens,” he said.
He further pointed out that clear and strict operating hours for heavy traffic were not being enforced in Karachi, while drivers were not being properly trained and vehicle fitness certificates were not being adequately checked.
Overloading, reckless driving and poorly maintained vehicles, he said, were contributing to the rising number of accidents while authorities remained silent spectators. Criticising the Sindh government, he said protecting the lives and property of citizens was the government’s foremost responsibility, but the provincial administration had completely failed in this regard.
He demanded immediate enforcement of strict operating hours for heavy traffic, decisive action against the transport mafia, and the removal of unregistered and unfit vehicles from roads. He also called for strict legal action against responsible drivers and transport companies.
The PTI leader urged the traffic police and other relevant institutions to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the safety of citizens and implement comprehensive reforms to prevent such tragic incidents.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, he said the PTI stood with the relatives of Tabish and Atif in this difficult time and prayed that the departed souls may rest in eternal peace and the family be granted patience.
He also demanded that the Sindh government provide immediate financial assistance to the affected family and ensure that those responsible for the incident were brought to justice.
