LAHORE:The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday suspended the notification appointing Syed Mohsin Shah as Medical Superintendent (MS) of the Punjab Dental Hospital and issued notices to the Punjab government and other respondents, seeking their replies.

Justice Khalid Ishaq passed the order while hearing a petition filed by Dr Muhammad Asim Farooqi. Advocate Mian Bilal Bashir represented the petitioner and argued that the post of MS had been given to a doctor holding an MBBS degree instead of a dental surgeon, which was against the applicable rules.

The counsel contended that under the relevant regulations, the position should be filled by a doctor from the dental cadre. He argued that the appointment was unlawful and was adversely affecting the hospital’s administrative and financial affairs. He maintained that the appointment had created administrative complications and requested the court to declare the appointment null and void and restrain the officer from performing duties until a final decision in the case.

The assistant advocate general representing the government failed to provide a satisfactory response. Subsequently, the court issued an interim order suspending the appointment notification of Syed Mohsin Shah as MS.

The court admitted the petition for regular hearing and directed the respondents to submit detailed replies at the next hearing.Further proceedings were adjourned until the next date of hearing.
