The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi has decided to establish a campus in the federal capital, Islamabad, and a proposal was formally approved during a meeting of the Board of Governors held on Thursday.
According to officials briefed during the meeting, the process of acquiring land for the proposed campus in DHA Islamabad has almost been completed. The board was informed that the establishment of the Islamabad campus would not require a new federal law; instead, the existing IBA Act of 1994 (Sindh Act) would be amended to include a provision allowing the institution to operate a campus in the federal capital.
During the meeting, Secretary Boards and Universities Abbas Baloch assured the participants that the necessary amendments to the law would be made at the earliest to facilitate the establishment of the Islamabad campus.
The Board of Governors also approved the construction of 32 residential flats for IBA faculty members and employees, aimed at addressing accommodation needs of the institution’s staff. Officials indicated that the proposed Islamabad campus is part of the IBA’s broader strategy to expand its academic footprint and provide executive education and postgraduate programmes to professionals based in northern Pakistan, including the federal capital. In recent years, the IBA has been extending some of its executive education and Executive MBA programmes in Islamabad to cater to senior professionals and corporate leaders in the region. The IBA Karachi, one of Pakistan’s leading business schools, was originally established in 1955 and remained part of the University of Karachi until 1994.
