LAHORE:Police in the Model Town Division continued their crackdown against criminal elements during February, arresting 577 suspects.
According to SP Model Town Shehrbano Naqvi, more than 40 members of active gangs were taken into custody. Police recovered Rs257,000 in cash, several stolen motorcycles and other valuables worth millions of rupees. During a special campaign against kite flying and wheelie-doing, 167 suspects were arrested and cases registered. More than 2,000 kites and string reels were seized. In actions against gambling, eight cases were registered and 40 suspects arrested, with over Rs200,000 recovered. Police also registered 33 cases related to beggary and violations of the Tenancy Act, arresting 96 individuals.
In operations against drug dealers, 82 cases were registered and 113 suspects arrested. Police recovered over 7kg hashish, 3kg opium, 657 litre liquor, 4.7kg ice and 3.005kg heroin. Police also registered 93 cases related to illegal weapons and arrested 116 suspects. The recoveries included 45 pistols, two rifles and pump-action guns. Four suspects involved in aerial firing were also arrested.
