LAHORE: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has officially confirmed the rebranding of the Sialkot Stallionz franchise into the Multan Sultans, marking a significant development ahead of PSL 11, which begins on March 26 in Lahore.

The announcement was made during a press briefing led by PSL CEO Salman Naseer, franchise owner Hamza, and newly appointed franchise CEO Gohar Shah. The transformation was driven by Gohar Shah’s vision to restore South Punjab’s representation in the PSL. Originally auctioned as the Sialkot Stallionz, the franchise has now been renamed Multan Sultans after Shah submitted a formal request to the PCB.

Outlining his philosophy, Shah introduced the concept of “Total Cricket”—a proactive, aggressive style of play emphasizing athletic fielding, fearless batting, and attacking bowling. “We don’t believe in wasting overs. If we save 30–40 runs in the field, that is the difference between winning and losing,” he explained.

Shah, a former First-Class cricketer, stressed that the franchise will prioritize agility, intent, and modern cricketing standards to build a powerhouse team over the next decade. While the squad selected during the auction will remain intact, Shah and Hamza confirmed that a Trade Window will soon open to allow adjustments in line with the “Total Cricket” vision.

The coaching staff includes seasoned names such as Saud Khan (bowling coach), Qaiser Abbas, and Sohaib Maqsood, alongside Australian specialists, ensuring a blend of local expertise and international experience.

Hamza acknowledged the disappointment of Sialkot fans but assured them of continued engagement: “Sialkot will be our second home. We will arrange special transport and free tickets for Sialkot fans to attend Multan Sultans matches.”

Shah added that while his heart was always set on Multan, he envisions a future where PSL expands to 10–12 teams, ensuring representation for all regions. The rebranding signals both a commercial and cultural shift. With Gohar Shah at the helm, the franchise aims to blend South Punjab’s cricketing passion with modern professionalism. His closing words captured the spirit of the moment: “The Start of a New Era. The New Dawn. Welcome to the New Sultan.”
