‘No shortage of edibles in Ramazan bazaars’

LAHORE: Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz on Monday visited the Ramazan Sahulat Bazaar at Wahdat Colony to review arrangements, directing officialsto ensure sale of essential commodities at 10 per cent below official market rates.

During the visit, the Assistant Commissioner Model Town briefed the deputy commissioner on the availability of essential items and prevailing prices.The DC also inspected the demand and supply situation in the adjoining market and checked the quality of commodities being sold at the Ramazan Bazaar.

Officials informed him that all essential items were being provided with subsidy while maintaining quality standards.The DC said that there was no shortage of any commodityin the market and that supply remained fully stable.

He reiterated that provision of quality items to citizens at affordable rates would be ensured at all costs.The deputy commissioner directed that special counters set up for women and senior citizens must remain fully functional to facilitate shoppers.

He emphasised that no compromise would be made on the quality of food items and that strict monitoring should continue throughout Ramazan.At the bazaar, a 10kg flour bag was available at Rs850 and sugar at Rs140 per kilogram, with ample stocks in place.

Meanwhile, the DC, in a statement, said that over 70,000 families in Lahore have received Ramazan Nigehban Cards, providing Rs10,000 cash or essential goods.Distribution is over 89 percent complete, with the remaining cards to be issued immediately.

The programme, coordinated with Bank of Punjab officials, is being carried out transparently and is hailed as a major relief initiative for deserving families. Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Wagah Tehsil Hafiz Zeeshan visited Jallo Morr Rehri Bazaar on Monday and reviewed the overall arrangements in detail.

According to sources, monitoring of open markets is also under way along with Ramazan Nigehban bazaars.The AC visited Jallo Morr Rehri Bazaar in connection with the monitoring.

During the visit, he conducted a detailed review of the stalls and overall arrangements in the Rehri Bazaar and issued instructions to the relevant staff to ensure the provision of essential commodities to the citizens at fixed rates.
