It has been alleged that some teachers are misusing their authority by pressuring or intimidating students for personal or financial gain. In some instances, students claim that they are deliberately failed without clear academic justification. Subsequently, they are approached with informal ‘offers’ suggesting that their grades could be improved in exchange for money or other benefits. There are also reports that students are threatened with academic penalties if they do not participate in seminars, trips or activities that require financial contributions.
It is important to recognise that many students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. A significant number struggle to pay their tuition fees and educational expenses. For such students, any additional financial pressure or intimidation can severely impact their academic performance and mental well-being. I respectfully urge the relevant authorities to ensure transparency, accountability and strict enforcement of ethical standards within academic departments. Establishing confidential complaint mechanisms and monitoring systems may help protect students from potential exploitation.
