The harms of social media cannot be underestimated. It has been linked to increasing mental health issues and even suicide among young people. Last year, Australia became the first country to ban social media for children under the age of 16. An Indian state has also promulgated an under-16 ban on social media.
Time is of the essence and all provinces of Pakistan should ban the use of social media for those under the age of 16. Only verified adults should be allowed to open accounts on online platforms.
