ALPURI: Young volunteers from Shangla have once again demonstrated remarkable courage and humanitarian spirit by rescuing a man from drowning in a river in the Battira area of Kohistan.
According to details, a team from Rescue 1122 struggled for nearly seven hours to save the victim but could not succeed due to the strong current and challenging terrain. At that critical moment, volunteers associated with the Ittibar Gul Insaf Group from Shangla stepped in to help save the life of the drowning man.
Habibullah Gujar and Bilal, affiliated with the Ittibar Gul Company, risked their lives by jumping into the river and successfully pulled the drowning man to safety. The rescued man was immediately shifted to a secure location.
Local residents praised the bravery and humanitarian commitment of the Shangla youth. On this occasion, Sardar Riaz, a Member Provincial Assembly from Kohistan, announced a cash reward of Rs50,000 in recognition of their courage and service to humanity.
Meanwhile, local elders have urged the government and administration to encourage such volunteers through formal training, safety equipment and honorary certificates so that more lives can be saved in the future.
