Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar directed on Wednesday that security of all key locations, including sensitive installations, must be ensured at an extraordinary level.
Chairing a review meeting on the law and order situation in the province at the Central Police Office Karachi, he directed that intelligence reports related to border areas be made purposeful and effective to ensure peace and stability. He emphasized that proactive strategies should be developed on the basis of these reports to counter potential threats.
Officials said the meeting was attended by senior police and security officials, including Sindh police chief Javed Alam Odho. During the meeting, the Sindh IGP briefed Home Minister Lanjar on the current security situation, potential threats, and ongoing measures.
Lanjar instructed that a coordinated and comprehensive strategy be formulated to curb banned organisations, sectarianism, and militancy. Keeping in view possible terrorist threats, he stressed the need to fully secure entry and exit points and to ensure foolproof security of mosques, madrasas, and imambargahs in consultation with their respective administrations.
He directed officers not to remain confined to their offices but to ensure their presence in the field and actively discharge their responsibilities. Instructions were also issued to intensify intelligence-based operations, snap checking, picketing, reconnaissance monitoring, patrolling, and checkpoint systems.
Lanjar ordered a comprehensive security audit of important and sensitive installations and directed that detailed recommendations regarding the resource requirements of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) be submitted. These recommendations should include drones, modern vehicles, explosive detectors, and other advanced equipment.
He also directed that drone surveillance be utilized in potentially sensitive areas of Karachi when required and ordered the establishment of a dedicated Drone Surveillance Unit for this purpose.
The home minister emphasized that further upgrading of the Special Branch is the need of the hour. He stated that the Special Branch would be assigned a frontline role in counterterrorism efforts and would be strengthened and modernized in line with contemporary requirements.
He added that the Special Branch would serve as the core wing of the province, and its intelligence reports would be made more reliable and robust to ensure sustainable peace and stability. He directed all relevant institutions to maintain law and order at all costs through coordination, proactive planning, and integrated operations.
The meeting was attended by additional IGs Karachi, CTD, Special Branch, DIGs CTD and Special Branch, CPLC Chief, SSP Operations-I CTD, and other senior officers.
