ISLAMABAD:In a major breakthrough against organised crime, the Islamabad Police have dismantled four notorious criminal gangs, arresting 11 suspects and recovering stolen assets valued at over Rs32 million.

The details were disclosed by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Islamabad, Muhammad Jawad Tariq, during a high-level press conference held at Rescue-15 on Tuesday. Accompanied by SSP (Operations) Qazi Ali Raza and SSP Investigation Muhammad Usman Tariq Butt, the DIG emphasised that these operations were conducted under the direct supervision of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi as part of an ongoing ‘Crime-Free Islamabad’ initiative for 2026.

Among the most significant successes was the resolution of a high-profile bank robbery in the Kohsar police jurisdiction. Following the heist on February 16, 2026, specialised units utilised CCTV footage and human intelligence to track the culprits to Peshawar and Karak. Authorities arrested four dangerous suspects, including the gang’s leader. Investigations revealed that the mastermind, identified as Zia Ullah, orchestrated the robbery with the assistance of the bank’s own security guard, Abdul Rehman. Police successfully recovered Rs3 million in cash along with illegal firearms and a getaway motorcycle.

The DIG also announced the arrest of the ‘TCS Gang’, a sophisticated group that carried out armed home invasions in the Lohi Bher area. The suspects reportedly used illegal SIM cards to impersonate courier representatives, luring residents to their gates before storming the houses and holding families hostage. In addition to physical valuables, the gang forced victims to transfer funds via digital banking apps. Police recovered Rs17.3 million in local and foreign currency, gold jewelry, and luxury watches from suspects Muneeb Sohail Rajput, Muhammad Faheem, and Iftikhar Ahmed.

Furthering the crackdown, the Robbery and Dacoity Unit (RDU) apprehended three members of a professional house-theft ring, seizing stolen goods worth Rs11.5 million. In a separate development regarding violent crime, the Islamabad Police successfully traced a "blind murder" case in the Kirpa area. Using modern technical methods, officers arrested Adnan Shaukat Satti for the killing of Hamid Khan. The suspect confessed to the murder, stating he lured the victim to an isolated location to kill him and reclaim earnest money following a failed property transaction.
