ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices on appeals against the conviction of Advocate Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha in the controversial tweets case.

The court also served notices on respondents on the pleas seeking suspension of the sentence of both and sought their response.

Justice Muhammad Asif heard the appeals against the conviction of the two accused.

Faisal Siddiqui, Zainab Janjua and others appeared on behalf of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha.

The petitioner’s lawyer said the next hearing should be scheduled soon, to which Justice Asif remarked that a date would be found.

Lawyer Faisal Siddiqui said the case transfer application was still pending and the trial court gave the decision.

The statements of two witnesses were recorded in the absence of the accused.

It was also strange that when the decision was made, the trial judge removed only one paragraph from it.

Justice Asif remarked that he was taking notice and asked for the paper boxes.

Faisal requested that the date for the suspension of sentence be scheduled closer to the hearing date.

He stated that he came from Karachi and asked that the date be fixed for the day he was present.

The court inquired when he would be coming. Faisal requested that the date be fixed for Monday or Tuesday. The court replied that he would receive the date from the office.

The court issued a notice to the NCCIA and sought its response and adjourned the hearing.

The trial court had sentenced Iman and Hadi to 10 years in prison.

On the other hand, Judge Abual Hasanat Muhammad Zulqarnain of the Anti-Terrorism Court, Islamabad, granted bail to Imaan and Hadi after their arrest in the case of a fight with police and ordered their release on bail.
