CM praised for raising girls’ marriage age

LAHORE:Sohail Alam, Member of the Chief Minister’s Minority Advisory Council Punjab, has welcomed the provincial government’s decision to raise the minimum legal age of marriage for girls from 16 to 18 years, terming it a historic step to protect their rights. In a statement on Monday, he said the new law declares marriage under 18 illegal and a cognizable offence, strengthening safeguards for the health, education and overall wellbeing of girls across the province.
