KARACHI: Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa led the country’s gas and oil production in January, outpacing Punjab and Balochistan in national output, according to a monthly exploration report.
Sindh accounted for 62 per cent of total national gas production, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) contributed 41 per cent of crude oil output, the Pakistan oil and gas exploration activity report for January showed.
The report, compiled by Topline Securities, said KP produced 41 per cent of total crude oil during the month, followed closely by Sindh with 40 per cent. Punjab contributed 18 per cent to national oil production, while Balochistan’s share stood at just one per cent.
In gas production, Sindh maintained its lead with a 62 per cent share of total output. Balochistan contributed 21 per cent, followed by KP with 14 per cent. Punjab’s share in national gas output was three per cent.
Total crude oil production averaged around 65,000 barrels per day in January, marking a 1.0 per cent decline year-on-year (YoY) and a marginal 0.4 per cent drop month-on-month (MoM).National gas production stood at 2,793 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd), down 12 per cent YoY but up 7.0 per cent compared with the previous month. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production totalled 2,012 tonnes per day, falling 7.0 per cent YoY and 6.0 per cent MoM.
During January, the oil and gas sector recorded one hydrocarbon discovery at the Tibri-1 exploratory well operated by UEP, in which Mari Petroleum holds a 44 per cent working interest.
Exploratory well drilling rose 33 per cent month-on-month, while seismic acquisition activity (2D and 3D) increased by 10-11 per cent. However, development well drilling declined by 15 per cent compared with the previous month.
