The Cadet College Sanghar organised the three-day Sanghrites Model United Nations, Edition VII (SMUN-7), from February 12 till 14, bringing together students from leading institutions to promote debate, diplomacy and leadership skills. The closing ceremony was attended by Sindh College Education Secretary Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon as the chief guest.
The conference featured structured debates and public speaking sessions aimed at strengthening cadets’ critical thinking, negotiation abilities, teamwork and leadership qualities. A total of 290 delegates from eight institutions participated at the event, including the Cadet College Petaro, SST Public School Rashidabad, Bakhtawar Cadet College for Girls, Hayat Girls College Hyderabad, Pak-Turk Maarif International School Jamshoro, Spark School and College Hyderabad, SZABIST University Karachi and Bahria College Islamabad. Seven senior trainers and speakers evaluated the proceedings.
The delegates were divided into six committees — the Pakistan National Assembly; the UN Human Rights Council; Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; UN Security Council; and UN Women — where they debated national and international issues. Each committee presented summaries of its resolutions, followed by media briefings.
Addressing the ceremony, Memon said such forums nurtured critical thinking, dialogue, leadership and diplomatic skills among youths, which were essential for developing a responsible and informed generation.
“We want our students to go beyond textbooks and develop the ability to think and lead at a global level,” he said.
At the closing ceremony, shields and certificates were distributed among outstanding delegates. Referring to the Quaid-e-Azam’s message that education was a matter of life and death for a nation, Memon urged the students to pursue excellence through quality education and constructive activities.
