LAHORE : Punjab Police have formally launched the installation of additional surveillance cameras in police stations and begun recording all public dealings as part of a broader police reforms project aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability.
Under the new initiative, the number of cameras in 84 police stations across Lahore will be increased from three to six. As part of the plan, three additional cameras will be installed in the veranda, investigation room and at the main entrance of each station. Authorities have also directed that non-functional cameras in SHO rooms, front desks and lock-ups be made operational without delay.
Sources said the provision of body-worn cameras to all police stations in Lahore has also commenced. Each station will be supplied with 20 body cameras for officers. Through these devices, all interactions and dealings between police officials and members of the public will be fully recorded.
On the directives of CM Punjab, officials have been instructed to ensure that no public dealing takes place outside camera coverage, and strict compliance with the orders has been emphasised.
Officials further stated that once the installation process is completed, periodic checks of station records and backup systems will be carried out to strengthen transparency and oversight mechanisms.
