ISLAMABAD: The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan through high-level visits, educational outreach and cultural engagement, spokesperson for the US Embassy Cain Harrelson said on Friday, highlighting a series of activities held this week to mark 250 years of American independence and deepen bilateral cooperation.

According to Harrelson, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State John Mark Pommersheim visited Pakistan and engaged with senior government officials, business leaders and artificial intelligence innovators to discuss collaboration in emerging technologies and other areas of mutual interest.

Also, Pommersheim, along with US Charge d’Affaires Natalie Baker and Consul General Kristin K. Sanders, took part in Lahore’s Basant festival, joining residents of Punjab in celebrating the revival of the traditional kite flying event.

The “Freedom 250” lecture series continued in Islamabad with a focus on legacy and leadership, highlighting US presidential history. The event was streamed nationwide through the embassy’s network of Lincoln Corners to reach a wider audience.

In the education sector, the embassy’s EducationUSA team organised US university fairs in Karachi and Lahore, connecting Pakistani students with representatives of American higher education institutions. A final fair will be held in Islamabad on Sunday, offering students further opportunities to explore study options in the United States.

On the sports front, the spokesperson noted that the embassy followed the recent T20 cricket match between the United States and Pakistan, expressing support for the US team. The embassy also joined Pakistani sports fans in watching the Super Bowl, describing it as a celebration of American culture.

Harrelson thanked Pakistan for its continued engagement and said the United States remained committed to building new partnerships, promoting innovation and advancing diplomatic cooperation in the years ahead.

“Thank you, Pakistan, for standing by our side as the United States forges new partnerships, champions innovation and defines a new era of diplomacy that will carry us forward for the next 250 years,” he said.
