Ashab enters Texas Open pre-quarters

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Ashab Irfan moved into the pre-quarterfinals of the $120,000 Texas Open in the US on Friday.

Houston Squash Club crowd favourite unseeded Ashab showed an impressive three-game victory over unseeded Yannick Wilhelmi from Switzerland 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 in 46 minutes in the first round. Now, he will face eighth seed Eain Yow Ng from Malaysia in the second round. However, wildcard Huzaifa Ibrahim lost to Dimitri Steinmann from Switzerland 5-11, 7-11, 6-11 in 33 minutes. Pakistan’s top player Noor Zaman was stunned by by unseeded Melvil Scianimanico from France 11-8, 3-11, 9-11, 4-11 in 45 minutes in the first round.
