FAISALABAD: Punjab Assembly Speaker Muhammad Ahmad Khan has reiterated his support for the Pakistan Army, condemned terrorism, and ruled out any possibility of negotiations regarding May 9 incidents.

Speaking to media during his visit to the Superior University Faisalabad Campus on Thursday, he said Pakistan’s armed forces rendered remarkable sacrifices for the defence of the country and effectively responded to external and internal threats. “Pakistan’s Army is outstanding and has made the enemy pay dearly,” he said, urging all political parties to refrain from criticizing the armed forces. He emphasized that the military was bravely confronting terrorism which remained a major challenge not only for the armed forces but for the entire nation.

Highlighting the security situation, he said Pakistan’s western border continued to be severely affected due to terrorism. He stressed the need for national unity to overcome security threats and ensure lasting peace and stability. Referring to May 9 incidents, he said the events had drawn a “deep line in politics” and made it clear that negotiations on the matter were not possible.

“These were not ordinary political protests. Attacks were carried out on sensitive installations including the Corps Commander’s House and other military sites,” he said.

He maintained that such actions could not be justified under any political pretext and must be addressed strictly in accordance with the law. He underscored that terrorism remained one of the gravest challenges facing Pakistan and called for collective efforts to counter extremist elements.

He noted that the sacrifices of the armed forces must be acknowledged and respected. He stressed that maintaining the morale of the armed forces was essential at a time when the country was facing both external and internal security challenges.
