KALAYA: The members of a jirga on Thursday continue joint efforts for peace, stability and the early resolution of public issues in Orakzai tribal district.
The jirga was held in Lower Orakzai to review the prevailing law and order situation, which was attended by tribal elders and senior government officials.
Commissioner, Kohat Division, Motasim Billah Shah and Regional Police Officer (RPO), Kohat, Irfan Tariq. Tribal elders, district administration officials and representatives of relevant departments attended the meeting.
During the jirga, the participants discussed security challenges, restoration of peace and ongoing development projects in the district. Tribal elders expressed serious concerns, stating that public problems had increased after the merger of the tribal districts. They called for the immediate resolution of issues faced by the police department, the establishment of new check posts on Shahu Road, and effective measures to curb rising incidents of insecurity in the area. The elders also demanded relief for local youth in the ETEA test for new police recruitments.
Addressing the jirga, RPO Irfan Tariq said that peace was the top priority and a shared objective, as development was impossible without lasting security. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by Orakzai tribal elders for peace and said that issues faced by police personnel were being taken up at higher levels. He emphasized the vital role of elders and the local population in maintaining peace and stated that community policing would be further strengthened to eliminate militancy and unrest from the area.
The commissioner, in his remarks, paid tribute to the role of tribal elders in ensuring peace in Orakzai.
