Rawalpindi:The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) Rawalpindi has released its performance report for the first week of February, highlighting extensive operations carried out across the city to ensure food safety and quality.

According to the report, PFA inspection teams checked 79 food outlets, including restaurants, hotels, milk shops and meat shops. During the inspections, 24 outlets were found violating food safety standards, with issues such as extremely poor hygiene, use of unhygienic and harmful cooking oil, and the absence of medical certificates for food handlers.

As a result of these serious violations, fines amounting to Rs420,000 were imposed on the offenders. The enforcement actions were conducted in various areas, including Murree Road, Dhoke Khaba, Raja Bazaar, Sadiqabad, and other parts of the city.

A spokesperson for the PFA stated that food safety teams are not only conducting inspections within the city but are also setting up checkpoints on motorways to regularly inspect milk transport vehicles, ensuring the supply of safe and quality milk to consumers.

The spokesperson reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy is being strictly enforced against those involved in the sale of unsafe and substandard food. Citizens have been urged to report any complaints regarding poor-quality or unhygienic food by contacting the PFA helpline 1223, enabling timely action against violators.
