The ongoing Awami Theatre Festival of the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi continues with full swing. On the 15th day of the festival, the stage play “Watan Ki Mitti” was presented, while the Balochi drama “Kanda Na baiya” was staged on the 16th day.
Artists delivered outstanding performances in both productions. The stage play “Watan Ki Mitti” was written and directed by H. Iqbal. The cast included Shanzay , Sitara Zaidi, Faiza Malik, Earj Shah, Javed Iqbal, Ashraf Chiragh, Imran Nawaz, Muhammad Altamash, and Honey Khan. The drama was based on a cinematic-style story revolving around a retired army officer and his sons.
According to the storyline, the retired officer had been injured in war. His elder son was serving in the Rangers, while the younger son—whom the father also wanted to join the Rangers—became involved in anti-Pakistan and anti-state activities out of greed for money. The younger son, in collaboration with India, brings some people into Pakistan who eventually martyr his elder brother.
When the father learns about his younger son’s betrayal and greed, he tries to stop him, but the son decides to move to Australia. At this point, the father declares that even if he were offered the entire America, he would never give up even an inch of his homeland’s soil. The drama shows that for the sake of national security, the father shoots his own son.
Later, the police arrest him following a report of the killing. The father states that he received medals for killing enemies at the border, and asks whether killing a traitor today should not also be considered a medal. In the end, he delivers a message that no institution or minister is above the law, declaring himself a servant of Pakistan. Saying this, he sacrifices his life.
