LAHORE: Newly appointed Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Dr Usman Anwar said that FIA would be modernised through advanced technology, training and comprehensive institutional reforms, for which all available resources would be utilized.

Speaking in an exclusive conversation with Jang, Dr Anwar said special measures would also be taken for the welfare and promotion of FIA employees, describing capable officers as the organisation’s most valuable asset.

The FIA chief reiterated that all elements involved in human smuggling, corruption and money laundering would be uprooted without any leniency, asserting that no concession would be given to those engaged in such crimes.

On assuming charge, he ordered an effective crackdown against corruption, money laundering, human smuggling and the trade in counterfeit medicines, while pledging to bring the organisation in line with international standards.

The new FIA chief began his tenure with detailed visits to the zonal and circle offices in Lahore and Gujranwala, where he reviewed administrative and operational issues and inspected office buildings and facilities. He held meetings with zonal directors and circle in-charges and was briefed on overall performance, pending inquiries, registered cases and ongoing crackdowns.

Dr Anwar directed officers to expedite the disposal of pending inquiries and cases and issued clear instructions for intensified action against corruption, money laundering, human trafficking and the illegal manufacture and sale of fake medicines.
