LAHORE:Two individuals died and 31 others were injured in various kite-flying-related incidents during Basant celebrations in City, according to sources.
Sources said that a 25-yearold Rashid died in the Sukh Nehar area after receiving an electric shock while retrieving a kite near an electricity pole. Injuries were reported due to kite strings, falls from rooftops, and electric shocks. The injured were shifted to hospitals.
Most of the injured were reported to be in stable condition, while some cases were referred to Mayo Hospital and other major medical facilities. Rescue sources said Zohaib, 29, was shifted to Samanabad Hospital in critical condition, while some minors were referred to Mayo Hospital.
Another incident involved Dawood, 16, who was injured by an electric shock while retrieving a kite. Police said legal proceedings are underway. Initial information suggests that most accidents occurred due to hazardous kite strings, unsafe rooftop movement, and flying kites near electricity wires.
In another incident, an 18-yearold boy lost his life after falling off a rooftop while attempting to catch a kite in Madina Colony, Baghbanpura on Friday. According to police, the victim was identified as Zain, who died on the spot after the mishap. Zain was the only brother of two sisters.
