PESHAWAR: In the May 9 case, the controversy regarding the alleged involvement of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has intensified.

According to the report received from the Punjab Forensic Lab, the evidence is linked to Sohail Afridi, while the latest reports obtained from NADRA have also identified evidence related to him. The court has ordered that the complete report be presented on February 14. The police claim that if directed by the court, the police will investigate Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

In this situation, questions are also being raised on social media as to whether Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police sent the evidence related to Sohail Afridi to the Punjab Forensic Lab or whether this was done under court orders.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi told this correspondent that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police did not send this material themselves, as the court handed over a sealed envelope containing a USB to the investigating officer and ordered that it be sent to the forensic lab. According to the Chief Minister, neither the lawyer was told what material was present in the USB nor did the police investigating officer know its contents. The lawyer also protested to have the material shown, however the honourable judge did not allow it to be shown. He further said that this material was sent as an act of injustice.

Sohail Afridi said that the court ordered forensic experts to give their opinion on whether the person in the video is Sohail Afridi or not. The forensic experts confirmed that the person in the video is Sohail Afridi. “But the real issue is whether Sohail Afridi has any connection with the May 9 incidents or not”, he said

The police have not yet conducted any investigation of Sohail Afridi in this regard. Peshawar CCPO Mian Saeed Told this correspondent that the police had already completed the investigation and submitted the challan to the court. According to him, when the opposing lawyer submitted some evidence in court, on court orders the USB was handed over to the police. Subsequently, the court issued instructions to the police to send this USB to the Punjab Forensic Lab and NADRA. He said that the forensic and Nadra reports have been submitted to the court and both reports have been made part of the case record. Now further action will be taken according to the next court order.

According to the CCPO, if orders are issued by the court, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will also be investigated. He said that it now has to be decided whether the video and images have any connection with the Peshawar May 9 incident or not.
