ISLAMABAD: The PTI-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Tuesday demanded that the Centre immediately release Rs 55-60 billion in NFC and other development and non-development funds earmarked for the newly merged districts of the province.
The federal government assured the provincial finance adviser that all their demands would be fulfilled.
Regarding the release of development funds for the merged districts, the KP government complained that the third quarter had begun, but no funds had been disbursed. The recent displacement in the area has intensified the urgency, prompting the province to request the immediate release of billions of rupees to undertake development activities.
Muzzammil Aslam, Advisor to the Chief Minister of KP on Finance, held meetings with Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal.
The Ministry of Finance said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team highlighted the operational and development imperatives in the merged districts and underscored the importance of predictable and timely releases to sustain ongoing schemes and meet pressing needs on the ground. They also drew attention to pending obligations concerning displaced families and other related commitments that require streamlined coordination and resolution.
Both sides agreed to continue close coordination through relevant forums and technical channels to address outstanding matters on a priority basis and to ensure that fiscal arrangements and releases support development objectives, service delivery, and stability.
