Senate told...: 195,110 CNICs impounded in 3 years, 46,416 revoked

ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Tuesday that 195,110 CNICs were impounded on court orders and under Section 18 of the Nadra Ordinance in the last three years while another 46,416 were revoked.

During the Question-Hour, in a written reply, Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi said that similarly, from 2023 to 2025, 148,694 identity cards remained impounded on the basis of court orders and under the Nadra Ordinance. According to the data shared with the House, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was on top in terms of impounding and revocation of CNICs, as 72,703 were impounded and another 17,128 revoked, whereas 55,575 were still impounded.

The House was also told that 307 kgs of drugs were seized in drug prevention raids in and around educational institutions of Islamabad during the last three years. In a written reply, it was explained that intelligence-based raids were conducted to prevent and combat drug smuggling, as 214 cases were registered and 263 persons were arrested in the operation against drug smuggling to educational institutions.

As per documents shared by the Ministry of Interior, in 2023, 3 kgs of drugs were seized from educational institutions, four people were arrested and as many cases filed. Likewise, in 2024, 176 kgs of drugs were seized from educational institutions, 102 cases filed and 125 persons arrested. Similarly, in 2025, 307 kgs of drugs were seized, 108 cases filed and 134 arrested. The Senate was informed that a piece of land measuring 20,000 sq yards in the Diplomatic Enclave was allotted to Sheikh Al-Ahmad Al Jabar Al-Sabah, the Ameer of Kuwait, who was then the ambassador of Kuwait in Pakistan, for construction of residential villas in 1980. The cost of plot amounting to Rs2m was paid by the then ambassador. The House was told that a foreigner can purchase land, only if the Ministry of Interior issues him/her NoC as per law.
