Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations raised by the Karachi Contractors Association against certain officials of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), reaffirming the city administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and fair governance.
Officials said that taking serious notice of the complaints and concerns highlighted by the Contractors Association, the mayor emphasized that ensuring an open, competitive, and transparent tendering and bidding process is a top priority of the metropolitan administration. In order to uphold the principles of merit, fairness, and institutional integrity, a detailed inquiry has been initiated to thoroughly examine all aspects of the procurement process in question.
The mayor has directed Municipal Commissioner KMC Sumera Hussain to conduct the inquiry in a comprehensive and impartial manner, covering all relevant procedures related to tendering, bidding, and procurement. The inquiry will assess whether established rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures were duly followed and it will also determine if any irregularities or lapses occurred at any stage of the process.
To ensure timely action and swift resolution, the municipal commissioner has been instructed to submit a detailed report within three days. The report is expected to include clear findings, factual assessments, and specific recommendations, if any, to further strengthen transparency and improve institutional processes within the KMC.
Furthermore, Wahab assured contractors, stakeholders, and the public that any individual found responsible for misconduct or violations of rules would be dealt with in accordance with the law, without discrimination.
At the same time, if the allegations are found to be baseless, the facts will be placed on record to protect the credibility of the institution and its officials.
The KMC remains committed to transparent governance, institutional reforms, and the delivery of efficient municipal services. This inquiry, the mayor stated, reflects the administration’s resolve to promote confidence among contractors, investors, and citizens, while ensuring that public resources are utilized in a fair, transparent, and accountable manner.
