LAHORE: The body of a woman who reportedly fell into a sewer line near Bhati Gate in Lahore was recovered from the Outfall Road area, while the search for a young girl is still underway.
DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said that a high-level committee had been constituted to investigate the incident. He added that three individuals, including the woman’s husband, who had earlier been taken into custody, were released after initial inquiries.
Before the recovery of the body, rescue officials stated that it was technically impossible for a human being to drown in the sewer opening where it was claimed that two people had fallen.
Rescue sources said the location identified for the incident was in the Bird Market near Data Darbar, where the administration had carried out excavation work. The area was dark at the time of the incident.
Specialised teams and divers from Rescue 1122 reached the site within minutes of receiving the report and launched a search operation.
Meanwhile, the Lahore administration said that an inspection of the sewer line was conducted and no evidence of an accident was found at the site.
The father of the woman had earlier recorded a statement with the police, alleging that she had been murdered. Following the statement, three suspects, including the woman’s husband, were arrested; however, they were later released as investigations continue.
