The deputy commissioner of District East on Thursday sealed an illegally constructed petrol pump on land belonging to the University of Karachi, days after its no-objection certificate (NOC) was formally cancelled.

Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi told The News that despite the cancellation of the NOC three days earlier, the petrol pump was inaugurated and fuel sales were initiated. He said the matter was immediately brought to the notice of senior authorities, prompting swift action by the deputy commissioner, who ordered the sealing of the facility.

Dr Iraqi said the university administration was now preparing to have the petrol pump demolished and the land restored to its original condition. “The structure stands on university land and its construction and operation were illegal. The land will be retrieved and rehabilitated,” he added.
