LAHORE:Punjab Police is conducting effective and robust operations across the province against metallic string and illegal kite flying, enforcing a zero-tolerance policy under the Anti-Kite Flying Act.

A Punjab Police spokesperson said that during the first 18 days of the current year, 357 accused were arrested and 360 cases were registered across the province, including Lahore, for violations of the law. During the operations, 30,774 kites and 676 spools of metallic string were recovered. In Lahore alone, 107 accused were arrested, multiple cases were filed, and 2,650 kites and 97 spools of string were seized.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar emphasised that kite flying at any location in the province is absolutely intolerable, and strict legal action will be taken against violators without discrimination. He noted that in Lahore, Basant is permitted only on specific days under government regulations, while metallic string and illegal kite flying remain completely banned.

The IGP directed strict action against those involved in the online business of metallic strings and kites. He also appealed to parents to prevent their children from engaging in this dangerous activity and to discourage illegal practices.

He urged citizens to act as responsible members of society by immediately reporting any kite flying or use of metallic strings to Police Helpline 15. He reiterated that Punjab Police is committed to enforcing the law to protect lives and property, and operations against kite flying will continue without interruption.
