Islamabad:The 9th National Sport Climbing and Rock Climbing Championship successfully concluded at the Pakistan Sport Climbing Arena, Pakistan Sports Complex, reaffirming Pakistan’s growing commitment to the promotion and development of sport climbing and rock climbing at the national level.
The closing and award ceremony was graced by Lt. General Shakir Ullah Khattak, Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila, as the chief guest, along with Mohyuddin Wani, Secretary, Inter-Provincial Coordination Division.
The distinguished guests were warmly received by Major General Irfan Arshad Khan, HI(M), President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP). The ACP president highlighted the vision and mandate of the Club for the systematic promotion of sport climbing and rock climbing across the country.
He appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and technical officials and emphasized the importance of climbing sports in youth development, discipline, physical fitness, leadership, and character building.
He told the audience that the championship was held from 6th to 8th January 2026, marking the ninth edition of the National Sport Climbing Championship. He stressed the importance of holding regular national level competitions to identify emerging talent and prepare athletes for international participation.
The award distribution ceremony and announcement of results were conducted by Mr. Najeeb Ullah Khattak, Vice President and Convener of the Championship, along with officials of the Alpine Club of Pakistan. In the National Sport Climbing competition, Huzaifa Imran from Islamabad secured first position in the Boys Under 19 category, followed by Saad Aslam from Azad Jammu and Kashmir in second position and Dilshad Ali in third. In the Men’s Senior category, Abuzar Faiz of SNGPL claimed first position, Zaheer Ahmed secured second, and Huzaifa Imran finished third. In the Women’s category, Amani Jannat of SNGPL received a special award for her outstanding performance.
Cash prizes of Rs50,000, Rs30,000, and Rs20,000 were awarded to athletes securing first, second, and third positions respectively. In the Rock Climbing competition held in the Margalla Hills, Saad Aslam from Azad Jammu and Kashmir secured first position in the Boys Under 19 category, followed by Huzaifa Imran from Islamabad in second place and Dilshad Ali from Sindh in third.
In the Girls Under 19 category, Amna Maqsood from Punjab secured first position, Dua Alam from Punjab finished second, and Tooba Amna from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured third. In the Men’s Senior category, Zaheer Ahmed of SNGPL won first position, Sajid Aslam from Azad Jammu and Kashmir secured second, and Syed Jameel Ud Din finished third. In the Women’s category, Amani Jannat of SNGPL secured first position, followed by Bibi Afzoon Zooni from Gilgit Baltistan in second place and Syeda Zahra from Gilgit Baltistan in third.
The championship concluded on a high note, reaffirming the leadership and vision of the President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan and the continued commitment of the Alpine Club of Pakistan and the Pakistan Mountaineering and Sport Climbing Federation to the promotion, development, and institutional strengthening of sport climbing and rock climbing across Pakistan.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr. Ayaz Ahmed Shigri, Secretary General of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, expressed sincere gratitude to all participants, officials, organizers, sponsors, volunteers, and honorable guests for their valuable support and cooperation. Tea was served at the end of the ceremony. Souvenirs and commemorative shields were presented by Major General Irfan Arshad Khan.
