Islamabad: The Islamabad police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Sheikh Abdul Rauf within 48 hours, marking another major breakthrough for the capital's law enforcement agencies early in 2026. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Islamabad, Muhammad Jawad Tariq, announced the arrest during a press conference at Rescue-15, accompanied by senior police officers.

He said the suspect, identified as Wajid Khan, was apprehended following an intensive investigation into what initially appeared to be a blind murder case. According to the DIG, special investigation teams were constituted under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation Muhammad Usman Tariq Butt and SSP (Operations) Qazi Ali Raza. The teams included SP OCU Salman Zafar, DSP RDU Salman Shah, SHO I-9 Kamal Khan, and other officers.

Using Safe City surveillance cameras and modern investigative techniques, the teams were able to trace and arrest the suspect in a short span of time. Police officials revealed that Wajid Khan had been employed as a security guard in Sector F-10 for the past three years and was also working as a cook for the deceased, Sheikh Abdul Rauf, during the same period. Initial investigations suggest the suspect was an employee of the victim and allegedly harbored personal grievances.

DIG Jawad Tariq further disclosed that the accused had fled with the deceased's car following the murder. Efforts are currently underway to recover the vehicle.

A five-day physical remand of the suspect has been obtained for further investigation. Police authorities stated that the accused will be formally charged on the basis of solid evidence to ensure he is brought to justice. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
