Rawalpindi: Official records in Rawalpindi now adopt the historically correct spellings of key geographical features, following guidance from renowned historian and archaeologist the late Professor Ahmed Hasan Dani.

A Rawalpindi Commissioner’s Office notification of May 2, 2024, directed the use of ‘Pothwar’, ‘River Soan’ and ‘Leh Nala’ instead of previously incorrect variants, after a National Highway Authority notice had referred to ‘Pothohar Avenue’ rather than the accurate ‘Pothwar Avenue.’ The junction where three water channels; River Soan, River Korang and ‘Leh Nala’, meet at the Soan Bridge on Pothwar Avenue was also renamed ‘Pothwar Sangam’ to reflect correct historical and geographical nomenclature.
