LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s son Junaid Safdar has embarked on a new chapter of life as he tied the knot with Shanzeh Ali, granddaughter of ruling PMLN leader Rohail Asghar, in a star-studded ceremony in Lahore.
The wedding ceremony was held at Sharif family’s Lahore residence, Jati Umra, on Saturday with political figures attending the ceremony.
Photos of the nuptial ceremony quickly went viral on social media, featuring groom Junaid Safdar elegantly dressed in a classic white sherwani, seated next to the bride, who looked radiant in a traditional red saree.
PM’s aide Rana Sanaullah and other politicians can also be seen in the nikah video.
The wedding festivities for Junaid Safdar commenced in grand style on Friday evening at the Sharif family’s Jati Umrah residence, while a valima reception is set to be held on January 18 (Sunday).
Junaid had marked the occasion by sharing his first photograph with bride Shanzeh.
“But once in a while it happens. Once in a while, the dream comes true. And the whole pattern of life is altered. Once in a while, the moon turns blue,” Safdar wrote in the caption.
The wedding procession, led by PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, left Jati Umra. The participants included groom Junaid Safdar’s mother, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, father Captain (retd) Safdar, their families, federal and provincial ministers, national and foreign guests.
The Nikah of groom Junaid Safdar and bride Shanzeh Ali was performed by the custodian of the shrine of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. After seeking bride’s approval, Mufti Raghib Hussain Naeemi fixed Rs125,000 as amount of dowry.
The Valima ceremony of Junaid Safdar will be held today (January 18) at Jati Umra. Sources privy to the event said that as many as 800 guests were invited for the Valima ceremony, while Mehndi (Henna) ceremony was held Friday night at Jati Umra, which was attended by the relatives and friends of bride and groom.
Junaid’s wedding to Shanzeh has sparked widespread interest, with social media users and supporters sending warm wishes and prayers for the couple as they embark on their new journey together.
It may be noted that Junaid is tying the knot for the second time. His first marriage was to Ayesha Saif, daughter of former accountability chief Saifur Rehman Khan, in 2021. However, the couple parted ways after two years. Junaid announced the divorce in an Instagram post in 2023.
