Seven killed, one injured as soil mound collapses in Kohat

KOHAT: At least seven people were killed and one injured when a mound of sand and soil collapsed along the bank of the Indus River in the suburban area of Qamarkhel here on Wednesday.

Rescue 1122 officials said that eight people were buried under the debris when the collapse occurred while they were digging in the area in search of gold. Rescue teams immediately reached the site and launched a rescue operation, they added.

The rescuers recovered seven bodies from the rubble, while one person was pulled out alive in an injured condition and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The deceased were identified as Talat, Fayaz, Abid, Daniyal, Sabir, Faraz and Faizan. The injured person was identified as Riaz Ali Khan, son of Aitbar Khan.

The rescue officials said the operation was completed after all the trapped persons were retrieved.
