Rawalpindi: The parents of a one-month-old infant, currently receiving post-operative care on ventilator support at Ittefaq Hospital (Trust), Model Town, Lahore, following cardiac surgery, have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for assistance through the restoration of the Sehat Card facility to help manage medical expenses.
The infant was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), a rare and complex congenital heart condition that required immediate and highly specialised surgical intervention. Due to the nature of the disease, the treatment involved significant surgical and post-operative care costs. Family said they have spent almost Rs2 million so far on medical treatment of the infant.
The child’s father (Muhammad Usama contact number 03337403100) stated that the family had to arrange decent amount of money to cover surgery, hospitalization, and medication expenses. He explained that the financial burden became particularly challenging as the Sehat Card facility had been unavailable for several months, leaving families to manage critical healthcare expenses independently.
The infant has been under treatment for the past ten days, where he continues to receive medical care following the procedure. The family has respectfully requested the Punjab Chief Minister to consider extending support through the Sehat Card program to help alleviate the financial strain. As a middle-class family facing an unexpected medical emergency, they expressed hope that government assistance would ease the burden of ongoing treatment expenses.
