LAHORE:Jamaat-i-Islami Lahore Emir Ziauddin Ansari said the uncontested victory of the PMLN candidate in PP-167 is ‘undemocratic’ and ‘unconstitutional’, and Jamaat-i-Islami rejected it. Speaking to the media outside the Punjab Election Commission office here on Monday, he said the controversial notification has been legally challenged at the Punjab Election Commission.

Advocate Ziauddin Ansari alleged that the Returning Officer, following instructions from the CM, prevented JI and other candidates. He said that such ‘biased’ and ‘controversial’ actions in PP-167 by-elections are unacceptable.

He demanded that the Election Commission immediately annul the notification and issue a new schedule for the by-elections in PP-167 after appointing a new Returning Officer. He emphasised that JI is fully present on the field and will actively oppose all forms of authoritarianism and tyranny. Present on the occasion were JI PP-167 candidate Chaudhry Abdul Qayyum Gujar, Secretary General Azhar Bilal, Deputy Secretaries Abdul Aziz Abid and Qaiser Sharif and other party workers.
