It has been a long time since I have seen pedestrian-friendly spaces in Lahore. The city has seen an urban development tsunami in the past decade and seems to have lost its ecosystem of peace, calm and afternoon walks. These three elements have been replaced with electric poles, overgrown trees or bushes and uncovered manholes. The Punjab government’s massive anti-encroachment drive has fixed a lot but Lahore needs its old ecosystem back. It cries for parks, better greenbelts and a systematic removal of encroachments from streets and towns.
