ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has adjourned for today (Tuesday) hearing in the Super Tax cases.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan, resumed the hearing. Makhdoom Ali Khan, the counsel for various companies, submitted that the initial target of enforcing the super tax in 2015 was to recover Rs80 billion.
He further submitted that from 2015 to 2022, a total of Rs114 billion had been collected out of which over Rs3 billion was spent. He contended that the banking sector had been subjected to discriminatory treatment.
Khan completed his arguments on Section 4B of the Income Tax Ordinance (ITO). Similarly, the FBR’s lawyers, Asma Hamid and Shahnawaz Memon, presented their arguments.
At the conclusion of the hearing, the court called Additional Attorney General Aamir Rehman to the rostrum. Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi asked the law officer if he wanted to say anything additional in the matter.
The additional attorney general told the court that once all the lawyers had completed their arguments, he will submit his point of view. Aamir Rehman, however, supported the federations’ stance. The counsel for FBR will commence their arguments on Section 4C of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
