ISLAMABAD: Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) Vice-Chairman Senator Allama Nasir Abbas Jafri on Monday warned that the condition of state institutions was rapidly deteriorating, alleging that corruption exceeding Rs5,300 billion had crippled the national economy.

“The health, education and employment sectors are in ruins. The country is sliding towards instability with each passing day, while the law and order situation has worsened considerably,” he said while addressing a press conference here.

The proposed Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Raja Nasir — who also serves as chairman of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) Pakistan — said the country was currently engulfed in a deep political, constitutional, economic and social crisis.

Referring to the February 8 general election, Senator Nasir claimed that the fundamental rights and electoral mandate of the people were “openly robbed,” resulting in a serious erosion of public trust in the Constitution of Pakistan.

He further stated that the issue of missing persons had assumed alarming proportions across the country, including Punjab, while youths were being imprisoned and allegedly tortured on what he described as fabricated charges — amounting to grave human rights violations. He blamed “failed and incompetent rulers” for pushing the country to the brink of destruction.

Senator Jafri termed the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan a violation of the Constitution and the law, vowing to continue condemning what he called his unjustified imprisonment at every forum.

Commenting on global affairs, he strongly criticised US President Donald Trump, accusing him of “bullying on the basis of power,” and alleged that the United States had emerged as a global colonial force posing a threat to humanity.

He claimed that the US and its allies suffered defeat in the 12-day Iran war, while Israel had been resisted by what he termed the oppressed Palestinians. He added that both the US and Israel had failed to achieve their objectives in Gaza.

Expressing concern over what he described as false and misleading propaganda against Iran’s Supreme Leader Syed Ali Khamenei, Senator Jafri said Khamenei was a steadfast defender of Islam who had never retreated from confrontation. “The followers of Imam Hussein (AS) always stand firm against oppression,” he remarked. He urged local media not to become part of what he called Western propaganda against Syed Ali Khamenei and also strongly condemned what he described as aggressive actions by Donald Trump against the President of Venezuela and his family.
