NOWSHERA: The police arrested the mastermind of a gang involved in a bank robbery case in Taru Jabba and recovered Rs7.38 million from his possession.
Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Nowshera, Rehmat Jehangir, said that a robbery took place at the National Bank branch in Taru Jabba in the limits of Pabbi Police Station on January 14, this year where Rs17.7 million and a large quantity of gold were looted.
Following directions of District Police Officer (DPO) Ahmad Shah, a special investigation team traced the prime accused identified as Shah Ali Akbar, a resident of Shalozan Road, Parachinar in Kurram district.
The accused was arrested during snap checking while travelling in a passenger vehicle.
During interrogation, he confessed to being the ringleader of an organised inter-provincial gang involved in several bank robberies in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Islamabad. It may be mentioned that the arrested accused was a teacher of a government school in the Education Department, which helped him avoid suspicion.
The police claimed to have recovered Rs7.38 million of the looted amount from him.
