M Riaz elected PPC president for sixth time

PESHAWAR: Senior journalist M Riaz has been elected president of the Peshawar Press Club (PPC) for 2026 for the sixth time after securing 360 votes against 79 votes of the rival candidate Anila Shaheen.

The election was contested between the United Journalists Panel and the Journalists Unity Panel, with a total of 451 members casting their votes.

United Panel’s Ziaul Haq was elected vice president with 248 votes, while Alamgir Khan became general secretary with 227 votes. Gulzar Muhammad was chosen as joint secretary with 224 votes whereas Irshad Ali of the Journalists Unity Panel was elected finance secretary with 278 votes.

In the governing body elections, seven seats were won by the United Panel and three by the Journalists Unity Panel. Addressing the members after his victory, M Riaz thanked the PPC members and said that his success reflected the unity, democratic traditions and professional ethics of the journalist community.
