PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Mina Khan Afridi was briefed on the progress made about the improvement targets assigned to the Capital Metropolitan Government, Peshawar.
The meeting was attended by Local Government Secretary Zafarul Islam, Director General Capital Metropolitan Government, Peshawar, along with other concerned officials, said an official hand-out on Saturday.
During the briefing, it was informed that the mechanism for identifying the number of street vendors in the city and their registration process had been completed.
The minister directed that further consultations be carried out regarding the transfer of schools, colleges, handicraft centres, and human resources to the relevant departments in order to improve administrative efficiency.
The meeting also reviewed proposals for increasing taxes under various heads. However, the minister rejected these proposals, saying that imposing any additional tax burden on the poor was unacceptable.
He emphasized that the revenue of the Capital Metropolitan Government should be enhanced not by increasing taxes, but by expanding the tax base.
The minister directed that a Non-ADP summary regarding parks under the administrative control of the Capital Metropolitan Government, Peshawar Development Authority, or other subordinate institutions be submitted within one week to ensure effective future planning.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the minister said that the provision of improved municipal services to citizens and institutional reforms remain among the top priorities of the provincial government.
