DHAKA: Leaders of the hall union have demanded that Dhaka University’s Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall be renamed Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall.

At around 2:30am on Friday, they hung a banner reading “Shaheed Osman Hadi Hall” at the hall gate.

Hall union Vice-President Muhammad Muslimur Rahman told the media: “Our Sharif Osman Hadi was martyred while fighting against Indian aggression.”

He added: “The cultural fascists at whose hands Hadi bhai was martyred are currently hiding in Delhi.”

According to the vice-president: “Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is the progenitor of these cultural fascists. That is why we want to remove his name and rename the hall after Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi.”

Hall union General Secretary Al Sabah told the media: “We collected signatures from hall students, and a majority of the students voted in favour of this demand.”

He further said: “Earlier, we submitted memorandums to the vice-chancellor twice. However, the issue was not implemented then due to the instigation of dark forces.”

Al Sabah added: “We will demand that the administration include this issue on the agenda of the next syndicate meeting and rename the hall after our Hadi bhai by removing the name of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
