PESHAWAR: The City Traffic Police have set up a special traffic response team (TRT) to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the provincial capital. The team will be monitored from the Command and Control Room. Also, body cameras will be installed on the officers’ uniforms.

“The purpose of forming the Traffic Response Team is to provide immediate facilities to the public related to the traffic system,” said Chief Traffic Officer Dr Zahidullah. He said the team will be regularly informed about traffic jam and congestion from the Command and Control Room so that the squad can rush and ensure the flow of traffic.

Dr Zahid said City Traffic Police Peshawar is striving to provide all the traffic related facilities to the citizens. He added that apart from the inner city, the Traffic Response Team will also reach the spot immediately in case of traffic jams on any highway.

“The Team will take action against those who violate traffic rules, including those with flashlights, tinted glasses and fancy number plates,” the CTO said. The team will be present at hotspots wherever there are problems related to the traffic system in the city.

The CTO said the teams would take steps to immediately resolve any issue on the road. Dr Zahid Ullah said a number of measures are being taken to ensure smooth flow of traffic on the roads, especially during the peak hours.

The CTO said apart from operations against encroachments and push carts parked on the road side, better traffic engineering measures are being taken to make sure there is no traffic congestion on the busy routes.

He said better traffic engineering is also being used to ensure smooth flow of traffic in busy squares, trade hubs and other key points. “Red lines are being painted at points where traffic congestion is reported, especially outside BRT stations. No cab, rickshaw or bike will be allowed to park or wait there as it causes traffic jams at several points on GT Road, Saddar and University Road,” said the CTO. He said artificial Intelligence will also be used at these points.
