KARACHI: Jazz reiterated its commitment to digital safety during a cybersecurity awareness session held in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority as part of Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2025.

The session in Islamabad on Tuesday brought together Jazz’s senior leadership, employees, and national regulators to highlight the growing importance of cybersecurity in an increasingly connected digital ecosystem. It focused on shared responsibility across the telecom sector to promote safe and responsible online practices in Pakistan.

Opening the session, Syed Zaheer Mehdi, group chief corporate and regulatory affairs at Jazz, outlined the rapidly evolving cyber threat landscape and stressed the role of digital operators in safeguarding users, data, and digital infrastructure.

Brig Dr Mukarram, director-general cyber vigilance at PTA, emphasised the need for proactive awareness, robust institutional frameworks and strong coordination among stakeholders to address emerging cyber risks, including deepfakes and AI-generated personas. He noted that the telecom sector represents a significant portion of Pakistan’s cyberspace and remains among the country’s most secure sectors.

Jazz’s leadership underlined the importance of cybersecurity in protecting customers and infrastructure while equipping employees with the knowledge required to operate safely in a fast-changing digital environment. Employees from across the organisation attended the session in person, reflecting a company-wide focus on cybersecurity awareness.

Concluding the discussion, Jazz Chief Technology Officer Khalid Shehzad highlighted the need to embed security-by-design principles into technology and operations, rather than treating cybersecurity as an afterthought to network expansion. The session ended with a vote of thanks to the speakers and stakeholders.
