Rawalpindi: Another significant progress has been made as construction work on underpasses on Peshawar Road gets started. The underpasses are the adjacent leg of the ongoing project of flyovers and underpasses being constructed on Kachehri Chowk, Jinnah Park, Iftekhar Janjua Road and remodeling of Ammar Chowk. Rana Qamar Ali, Executive Engineer (EXEN) of Punjab Highways Department, while speaking to the APP on Sunday, confirmed that the underpasses project on Peshawar Road has been officially initiated.

"Concrete plants have been built, technical investigations are underway and a camp has been set up at the site", he said. The EXEN further said that essential machinery has been implanted on the site as well. This project is crucial for improving traffic flow on Peshawar Road, a two way bottleneck from and to Saddar as it linked the GT Road with Motorway and thickly populated Cantt areas.

According to Rana Qamar Ali, these underpasses will play a key role in eliminating traffic jams at the city''s most congested intersections. Upon completion of the project, the route from Amar Chowk to Motorway Chowk will become completely signal-free, providing ease of travel and saving time for millions of citizens daily.

It is worth noting that the Punjab government is working on multiple billion-rupee projects to transform Rawalpindi into a signal-free corridor, including the mega project at Kachehri Chowk. -
