BARA: All Afridi tribes of the Tirah valley in Khyber district after a jirga on Thursday presented 27 demands to the government in exchange for their relocation to enable the authorities to clear the area.

They sought assurance and guarantees that the people of Maidan would be sent back within one to two months after clearance. They also said that no peace committee should be formed upon their return, saying that maintaining law and order should remain the responsibility of the security agencies and the government.

The elders said transport arrangements for the displaced people should be made by the authorities. Each family should be provided Rs500,000 in cash and a monthly stipend of Rs100,000, to be transferred digitally through EasyPaisa, JazzCash or other platforms.

Upon return, they said, transport and essential household items must be provided. People should be allowed to carry their belongings without checks on the way, and no items should be seized.

They demanded that Non-Customs Paid vehicles should be registered in Tirah Maidan, noting that many residents also have houses in Peshawar and cannot move their vehicles without registration.

The elders asked the government to ensure that after the current operation there would be no future operations, no deterioration in law and order, and no further displacement. Tirah Maidan should be fully cleared, they added. They also demanded compensation for land currently under government possession, according to market value in Tirah Maidan.
